Cougars defeated by Mustangs

Last Friday the Sandy Creek Cougars got beat by the Sutton Mustangs 32-0. Senior running back Noah Johnson for the Mustangs was an exceptional threat coming into the game ranked as the 10th leading rusher in the nation. However, the Cougar defense held him to his lowest yardage game at 275 yards. The Cougar defense battled the first half and let Sutton squeak by with a mere 12 point lead. In the 3rd quarter the Cougars only allowed one touchdown. With eight minutes left in the 4th quarter, the Cougars tried to kick 15 yard field goal giving Sutton the ball back on the 25 yard line. The Mustangs plowed down the field for another two touchdowns to drop the Cougars to 3-2 on the season.

Senior Logan Searle said, “Our defense played hard, but there were some blown assignments.”

The Cougars have shown a very strong defense this whole season, but these last two weeks the offense has had a hard time. Searle described the offense as a square wheel. Coming off of this big rivalry loss the Cougars are on the prowl for a win this week against the Superior Wildcats.
