L/N Bids Farewell to Spanish Teacher
Since late October, the students at Lawrence/Nelson HS have had the pleasure of taking Spanish I & II with Manuel Sanchez or Mr. Sanchez to them. Mr. Sanchez and his wife have been in the United States for approximately two years. The reason for their move? They wanted to experience everything they have learned about this country from the media, movies, etc. Sanchez’s wife, Ana Moreno, was offered a teaching position in Sutton as part of a teacher exchange program. Upon their move, Mr. Sanchez was a substitute teacher for many surrounding schools before being called to fill a vacancy here at L/N.
Shortly before beginning his position at L/N, Sanchez and wife, Ana, were blessed with the birth of their first child, son Daniel Moreno-Sanchez. Ana has since been on maternity leave but returned to her position in Sutton after Christmas break. To provide the best care for his family, Mr. Sanchez has elected to stay home with Daniel while Ana teaches.
Manuel and Ana come to the US from Albacete, Spain, a city with a population close to 200,000. Both also originated as teachers, while Mr. Sanchez taught Computer Science, Ana taught English. They both have family in Albacete and were anxious to visit home over Christmas break, as only Ana’s parents have had the opportunity to visit Daniel.
When asked about his departure from Lawrence/Nelson, Sanchez had these words to share, “I am very happy here, and I enjoy the students and staff so very much. I have to say thank you to everyone and I am very sad to leave. I hope to one day see everyone again”. As it is customary for one parent to stay home with a child in Spain, Mr. Sanchez is eager to stay with Daniel from day to day.
The staff and students at Lawrence/Nelson would like to bid farewell to Mr. Sanchez and wish he and his family the best in their future endeavors. He will be greatly missed by everyone.
