District Wide AR Celebration

Dr. Gilson welcomes everyone to the assembly

Congratulations to everyone in the district who meet their 3rd Marking Period Goal.  We had a new first this period...everyone in the Lawrence/Nelson Elementary met their goal.  This takes a lot of hard work by the students and the teachers.  Overall 22 classes across the district met their goal.  Over the last year, 30,961 books – 315,501,148 words have been read by our students.  This represents almost a four fold increase in circulation in across our district libraries.  Congratulations to all.

The students enjoyed the morning, with our own version of Americal Idol, hosted by Howie, Sharon and Howard.  Three fine groups showed off their talents with Dr. Perni's group showing the most originality with their Enlargement Machine.  It was the only act that incorporated reading...taking small books, making them bigger.  This showed the students that you can start small, but work towards bigger success in reading, education and in life.

The next game was MazeRunner and Duck, Duck, Glue running at the same time.  While the district's highest achieving students ran the school looking for their cards all of the the other students across the district duck taped their principal or teacher to the wall. When all was said and done, Mr. Boelhower was the last one left "standing" or taped to the wall.

Then we played, Did I Just Eat That?  A game filled with crazy jelly beans...was that chocolate pudding or canned dog food, licorice or skunk spray, caramel popcorn or vomit?  The only way to find out was by chewing and finding out...several faces showed that they were not ready for the challenge.

The last game was Plinko, built by our very own Bob "the Builder" Theer.  The highlight of the day was when Tifphani Stratton, the districts highest achiever won the set of Beats headphones.  She was a very excited student.  Another awesome win, was Kaleb Whitmore winning a new bicycle.  Many more prizes were handed out included games, dolls, skates and iTune Cards.

All of the teachers who had classes who met their goal will be placed in a drawing.  Three prizes will be drawn at a later date.  All the Lawrence/Nelson students who met their goal went on to Kearney for some ice skating.  Sandy Creek Elementary will leave on the 17th and Sandy Creek Middle School and High School will be attendin on the 26th.  All students who met their goal played in at least one activity and will earn the chance to go skating.  Next marking period is only going to get better.  Don't stop reading.  Keep up all of the hard work and keep reading!

Track your students goals online.  Please make sure yout student is reading within in their goal range.  The best way to improve your readin skills are to read something you enjoy.  We want our students to be successful by becoming better readers.  Reading is a skill every student will use for the rest of their lives, this is an important skill for life.  We appreciate everyone's help and continued support.
