NSAA Student Advisory Committee Applications

Open Until March 1st for incoming Juniors & Seniors

The NSAA Student Advisory Committee was created by the NSAA for the 2016-17 school year. This Student Advisory Committee would be a diverse group of students who participate in interscholastic athletics/activities and are focused on providing education and leadership through open and honest communication with all member schools and their students, administrators and coaches. This committee would serve as a liaison between students, administrators, the NSAA Staff and Board of Directors. The Student Advisory Committee would help promote the mission of the NSAA, including leadership, sportsmanship and integrity.

Total Number Selected: The Student Advisory Committee would be comprised of twelve students. Of those twelve students, six would be boys and six would be girls. Half of the twelve members would be juniors and the other half seniors. These students would be selected from the Nebraska’s six districts. The selection process would have a focus on the representation of gender, school class, and minority representation.

Duties and Responsibilities: The SAC committee would discuss current student and Association issues, assist with various Association functions, and help to maintain an avenue of communication between the Association and the student participants themselves. Avenues to accomplish this goal would be:

* Committee members could give student perspective on proposed by-law changes

* Students could provide input, help develop and attend the sportsmanship and leadership summits in conjunction with the NCA.

* Students could record public service announcements (PSAs), through a media partner chosen by the NSAA.

To Be Eligible: To be eligible for the NSAA Student Advisory Committee you must:

1. Be a Junior during the 2016-17 school year and be able to serve for your junior and senior years OR be a Senior during the 2016-17 school year.

2. Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.

3. Fill out the NSAA application.

4. All members need to be available for meetings twice a year and two members will be chosen for the NFHS Leadership Conference in Indianapolis, IN, July 18-19, 2016.

a. Member’s school would be responsible for travel expenses for meetings at the NSAA office.

b. First meeting is scheduled for Sunday, August 6th, 2016 at the NSAA office.

5. Complete an essay in answer to the two questions on the application. (On a separate sheet).

6. Supply two letters of recommendation from your school. One should be from your Athletic Director or Principal and the other can be from someone who knows your qualities for this position, (an employer, a coach, etc.) that is not a family member.

7. Complete the application process by: March 1, 4:00 PM, 2016.
