Students prepare for the future

Students visit UNL

On Oct. 26, a group of 46 students from both Sandy Creek and Lawrence-Nelson were up bright and early to leave for their college visit at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL).

“I think that it is important for students to get onto campuses early so that they can set goals for their futures,” said Mrs. Connie Porter.

The visit started out with a campus admission counselor giving general information about the school and the cost of tuition, the next step in the day was the college fair. Representatives from each program set up booths and were available to talk to the students, allowing them to gain more information about degrees that are offered.

“I think that the booths were very helpful because they allowed us to get more information on possible classes we would be taking or jobs we would go into,” said junior Kaylee Yost.

The students were then split up to listen to presentations given by a counselor who attended the University. Students were instructed about the importance of choosing the right college based on their individual preferences. To end the day,Campus tours showed students the academic buildings and the recreational areas, giving participants a better idea of what the campus life is like.

“I thought that the tour was very informative, and it was pretty cool that they took us into all of the buildings,” said senior Warren Wilson

The day concluded with a student panel; high school students had the opportunity to ask questions of current UNL students to help them decide if Lincoln is the place for them.

“The trip was very informational and made me rethink where I want to go to college,” said sophomore Atley Van Emmerik.
