Lady Cougars dominant triangular at Sutton

The Lady Cougars, despite starting out slow during their match against Bruning-Davenport/Shickley (BDS), came back to show their strength with a win over the Eagles. Riding that momentum, they gained another win during their match against the Fillies of Sutton to win the triangular.

“We didn’t start off strong in any of our sets, but we came back to beat BDS 25-20 and 25-18, and we topped Sutton 25-22 and 25-19. Although we didn’t start strong in any of our sets, after we had called a timeout, we knew we had to start playing as a team if we wanted to win. Each of us girls knew that we had our own roles that we had to accomplish, and since we narrowed down on each of them, we were able to finish the night with two wins” said senior rightside Addison Kuta.

Throughout the game, the Lady Cougars knew they needed to change if they were to come back strong against Mustangs. The team had a total of thirty-one kills, which helped them pull through and win the game. Junior Kambria Chohon, lead the team with eleven kills.

“We knew, after coming off slow, that we each had to change a part of our game. All of us made these changes, including fixing our poor passing and cutting back on service errors, which is the reason that we were able to come back to win both of our games Tuesday. Our strong finishes are what made those two wins possible for us,” said junior setter Kenzie Turman.

Successful serves propelled the team to victory. The Lady Cougars had a total of six aces and finished the triangular with few service errors. Leading the team in serves was Kuta with four aces.

“We were able to win both games on Tuesday because we won the serve and pass game. We had multiple players go back and serve long runs which was able to give us comfortable leads in all the sets” said Coach Levi Gorsuch.

The Cougars take on the Centurians of Centura Thursday in their final regular season game. Seniors will be recognised for their dedication and leadership prior to the varsity match at seven.
