College opportunities
Students visit UNK
Last Wednesday, students had the opportunity to go on a school sponsored college visit to the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK). Continuing her program to tour local colleges and universities, Guidance Counselor Mrs. Connie Porter took 25 students from the district to UNK on the 9th. By offering transportation to the college, many students, who might be able to take themselves, were able to visit the college.
“I’m glad that I had the opportunity to visit UNK because sometimes it’s hard to decide which college I want to visit. It was also really great that the school offered transportation because it can be really hard to get there along,” said sophomore Jordan Kempf said.
While on the tour, the students were able to visit campus and learn what it would be like to be a student at UNK. Participants toured a dorm room, and they went through different buildings, looking at what the classrooms are like at UNK.
“I’m glad that I had the chance to see what classrooms are like at UNK. By touring the different buildings we were able to glimpse what student life is like in each field of study,” said Junior Ty Schweer.
The students attended a seminar about college funding and learned about the tution fees associated with college. While at the seminar students were able to ask questions about college life. Also, they had the opportunities to learn about the scholarship opportunities offered at the school. After the tour, they enjoyed lunch in the cafeteria.
“I think that the college visit was a great opportunity and it really got me thinking about the next step in my education,” said sophomore Stephen Friend.
