Red Raiders find success at season’s first meets

Team gets first at Harvard and second at Superior

The Red Raiders Wrestling team found success in their first meets of the season last week. They competed in the Superior invite last Friday, and the Harvard tournament on Saturday.

At the Superior invite the team beat Superior 36-33, but fell just short of Thayer Central 36-33, taking home the silver.

“It was frustrating to lose by a couple of points, but I’m still really proud of how my team did. We had a lot of kids medal and it was really fun to watch my teammates,” said sophomore wrestler Luke Searle.

Just a day later, at the Harvard Invite, the Red Raiders racked up four 1st place medals from sophomore Chase DeVries, wrestling at 126; senior Tanner Ives, wrestling at 132; senior Gavyn Bushkotter, wrestling at 152 and junior Hunter Rempe, wrestling at 160. Junior Colt Rademaker was the 220 runner up, sophomore Jakob Spitz got the bronze while competing at 195, and senior Ryan Haack placed fourth in the 170 weight division. Overall, the team took the gold and beat second place Sutton by 6 points.

“The guys did a great job last weekend, and they competed very hard! They carried the momentum from Friday into Saturday and we were able to win the Harvard Invite! We have a lot of work to do to continue to get better, but the coaching staff couldn’t have asked for a better first tournament!” said first year coach Mr. Ryan Bauer.
