12 days of denim

The Sandy Creek faculty and staff is having fun this holiday season by rocking their denim. Matching up with a theme, such as camouflage or polka dot day, the faculty and staff can spruce up their look for the remaining 12 school days of the semester. If teachers don’t dress up according to the days but still don their denim, they are forced to bring treats for the rest of the faculty.

“I think it’s awesome, even though I’m not wearing jeans today. It’s nice when things are so busy and crazy this time of year; it’s great to wear jeans and be comfortable,” said Ag teacher Ms. Amy Tomlinson.

Teachers across the school are dressing up and getting into the Christmas Spirit with this new event which is in its second year. Secondary Principal Mr. Jason Searle instituted this fun activity for faculty and staff in 2015 and brought it back this year due to overwhelming appreciation from teachers. Searle himself is getting into the holiday spirit by allowing his staff to dress down and relax during this stressful time of year.

“It’s awesome of Mr. Searle to let everyone celebrate the season by wearing jeans. It seems like such a little thing, but it really does make this hectic time of the year a little easier and a lot more fun,” said Mrs. Andee Collinson, English teacher.

Dressing comfortably can improve the mood of almost anyone. According to recent studies, people who are depressed or sad are more likely to wear baggy clothing. With the semester zipping down, much needs to be done, but ironing dress pants shouldn’t be one of them.

“I think it can boost staff morale at a time when it can get stressful as a teacher,” said art teacher Mrs. Crystal Hassenstab.
