Lady Cougars sweep the Bluejays

The Lady Cougars basketball team traveled to Ashland Greenwood on Thursday January 5th, looking for their first ever win against the Bluejays, ever. The Cougars finally got their win, beating the Bluejays 52-37.

“It felt really nice finally getting a win against them because we have always struggled in the past when playing that team. Although our record might not show it, I really think that this is the best team that we’ve had for a while. We finally pulled through and pieced things together to defeat a team that we have been working at for many years, said senior post Addison Kuta.”

The lady cougars were in double digits, scoring all four quarters. Starting off the first quarter strong, they scored 12 points, followed by 10 points in the second, 17 points in the third, and 13 points in the final quarter.

“We executed our gameplan well because we were consistent offensively, and we ran our offenses well, which gave us open shots,” said assistant coach Mr. Jeremy Borer.

The Lady Cougars were led by junior Kenzie Turman with 14 points and senior Kuta with 12 points. Others that contributed points were senior Barbara Rodriguez with 3, senior Lauren Shackelford with 9, junior Kambria Chohon with 9, junior Jordan Woodbury with 1, sophomore Calie Schliep with 2 and freshman Kyara Fike with 2.

“Being a leading scorer is a great feeling to have during a game, but I definitely couldn't do it without my team. I mean, we have our ups and downs, but in the end we all pull together and do what we have to do to finish it,” said Turman.
