Mooooving Real Beef into our School System!
Friday, January 19th, 2018
The Lawrence-Nelson Middle and High School will be prepared a "SPECIAL" treat for the students and faculty beginning Friday January 19, 2018 by feasting on "REAL BEEF."
The moment has FINALLY arrived. The Lawrence-Nelson FFA Alumni has been working on the "Beef @ School" Program since the end of August. FFA Alumni President Teri Pond-Svoboda took the first 2 beef to Diller, NE on December 11th, 2017. You might ask why Diller? Because it is a USDA facility that will process beef that are over 30 months of age.
The generous donations are from the following area producers. Cattle donated by: 7S Bar Ranch (Gene, Joe and Arnie Svoboda) and the Ken Herz Family.
Teri also took two beef to Custom Pack in Hastings on January 9th, 2018. Custom pack is a USDA facility that will only accept beef under 30 months of age. These cattle were donated by: the Ken Ostdiek Family and the Jason Drudik Family.
The following donors have made cash contributions to the program.
- Kohmetscher Feed Service Inc (Gary & Paula Kohmetscher) - $1,000.00
- MLM Gelbvieh (Marlin & Lorri Meyer) - $500.00
- Aurora Coop - $500.00
- Peak Dental (Chance & Stephanie Svoboda) - $500.00
- Floyd & Linda Tucker - $100.00
- Mary Wheeland - $50.00
- Russ Snyder - $50.00
- Commercial Bank (Steve Clabaugh) - $50.00
- Waypoint Bank (Tim Sladek) - $50.00
- Steve & Jodene Clabaugh - $25.00
- Steve Deb Troudt - $25.00
All those that contribute to the program in anyway will be recognized through various venues throughout the year. L-N Alumni are always accepting any donations possible. The Lawrence-Nelson students, faculty and FFA Alumni cannot thank you enough!
The "Beef @ School" Program will be conducting raffles and auctions of the Prime Ribs and Steaks from the processed beef to offset the processing cost and other program financial expenses.
The Lawrence-Nelson FFA Alumni is in search of "Beef @ School" committee members. Now that the program is up and running at the Middle-High School, there is still work to be done on getting the program into the Elementary. The committee will assist in running the Beef @ School program. Needed on the committee are students, faculty, parents, grandparents, and community dwellers alike. Please contact Teri Pond-Svoboda if you are interested in helping at (402) 469-6331.
Stay tuned for further fantastic BEEF FACTS!
