Sandy Creek Students Compete at Seward Quiz Bowl Competition

The Quiz Bowl competition in Seward had two parts to the contest.  The morning was a round robin competition to determine seeding for afternoon.  The afternoon was a single elimination tournament.  Sandy Creek was one of the smaller schools in the medium-sized school division.
 
Team members for Sandy Creek A are:  Ana Del Campo, Serenity Caves, Sam Galaway, Rami Hinrichs, Atley Van Emmerik
 
Sandy Creek A: Lost 20 - 25 to Seward A (seeded 8th), Lost 25 - 105 to Norris B (seeded 3rd) and Lost 20 - 105 to York B (seeded 5th)
The Sandy Creek team ended up seeded 16th and played 1st seeded Brownell Talbot in the afternoon, losing 40 - 135.  However, the bright spot was when at one time the team was down 135 - 10.  The Cougars did not give up.  They answered the last three questions and a bonus question to improve the final score.
 
Team Members for Sandy Creek B:  Breanna Brennfoerder, Claire Galaway, Jenna Heinz, Kristen Rohrer, Jaylin Sutton
 
Sandy Creek B: Lost 35-50 to Arlington B (seeded 6th), Won over Shelby-Rising City (seeded 14th) 75 - 70, and Lost 35 - 100 to Brownell Talbot (seeded 1st).  The Cougars played BT close in the early going.
Sandy Creek B team ended up seeded 10th and face Centennial A (seeded 7th) in the afternoon.  This match was extremely close, with the score being tie or the lead changing hands eight times.  The final score was SC 45, Centennial 50. The Cougars lost by one bonus question.  Coach Pernicek was pleased with the effort of the  freshmen and sophomores.
 
Coach Pernicek stated, "As coach, I'm extremely proud of the way both teams competed and represented SC."
