The recent school bus stop tragedies across the nation have prompted us to remind the public respect the school bus stop arm ad signals. If you are about to meet a school bus from the front or rear and the yellow lights are flashing, slow down and COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. When the school bus is stopped and the door is opened, the flashing lights switch to red and the stop arm is extended, ALL vehicles on the road in the area of the bus MUST STOP AND REMAIN STOPPED until the red lights are off and the stop sign is retracted. 

 

By endangering the lives of the children boarding or leaving the bus, any person violating the law will be guilty of a class IV misdemeanor and will be fined $500. All South Central USD #5 bus drivers report any violators to the local law enforcement. Wouldn't you rather tell your boss that you are late from a bus stop rather than tell a mother you hit her child?
