2019 National Honor Society Induction

 

On Thursday, February 7th, 2019, Lawrence/Nelson inducted eight new members into their National Honor Society.  These included juniors Cody Buescher, Hallie Epley, Taylor Harrington, Trevin Kotinek, Annie McCartney, Sophia McKee, Allison Miller, and Joanie Schultz.  These eight joined senior NHS members Brody Himmelberg, Samantha Janda, Kaylee Kathman, Brandi Mazour, Boone Svoboda and Megan Wheeland.

 

Students inducted for the 2018-2019 school year were as follows:

  • Cody Buescher (son of Dwayne & Cindy Buescher): Cody has been active in football, basketball, golf, FFA, FCA, FBLA, band, and Student Council.  Outside of school he has worked with his local 4-H group cleaning and painting and has also helped with the local Easter egg hunt sponsored by FBLA.

  • Hallie Epley (daughter of Ethan & Dana Epley): Hallie has been active in volleyball, basketball, track, FFA, FCA, FBLA, Student Council, Lettermen’s Club, the TVC Sportsmanship Committee and HOSA.  Outside of school she has kept busy with her church, the Nelson Community Club and cleaning for the fairgrounds.

  • Taylor Harrington (daughter of Jerad & Michelle Harrington): Taylor has been active in volleyball, basketball, track, band, and L/N Club.  Outside of school Taylor stays busy helping referee the elementary volleyball league, assisting at the Lawrence pancake feed, and helping with local ball programs.

  • Trevin Kotinek (son of Kris & Peggy Kotinek): Trevin has been active in football, basketball, track, FFA, FCA, HOSA, One Act, band, archery, and the TVC Sportsmanship Committee.  Outside of school Trevin is busy helping with legion fundraisers, picking up trash with his CCD group, putting out flags on Memorial Day and various other community activities.

  • Annie McCartney (daughter of Boyd & Sheila McCartney): Annie has been involved in volleyball, basketball, track, FFA, FCA, L/N Club, Student Council, FBLA, band and dinner theatre.  Outside of school Annie stays busy helping with Santa Land, highway clean-up, fairground clean-up and reading in church.

  • Sophia McKee (daughter of Joe McKee & Chris McKee): Sophie has been involved in Teammates, Color Guard, and Student Council.  Outside of school Sophie is active with the Rep Valley Trap Club assisting with fundraisers and also assisted with the Hearts and Hands Against Hunger.

  • Allison Miller (daughter of Gary & Becky Miller): Allison has been involved in volleyball, basketball, track, FBLA, FFA, FCA, Student Council, L/N Club, HOSA, and Quiz Bowl.  Outside of school Allison has helped with her church smorgasboard for several years and also helped with the 4-H and CCD road clean-up.

  • Joanie Schultz (daughter of Jeff & Jennie Schultz): Joanie has been active in volleyball, cross country, basketball, track, FFA, FBLA, HOSA, Student Council, drama and archery.  Outside of school Joanie stays busy reading at her church, assisting with Santa Land, and the Catholic Youth Organization.

Students who were already members of the organization and are seniors this year include:

  • Brody Himmelberg (son of Todd & Laura Himmelberg):  Brody has been active in football, basketball, FBLA, FFA, FCA, Student Council, One Act, and archery. Outside of school Brody stays busy helping umpire local softball games and volunteering at the Lawrence soup dinner.

  • Samantha Janda (daughter of Phillip & Michelle Janda): Samantha has been active in volleyball, basketball, FBLA, FCA, National Art Honor Society, drama, vocal and various community activities.

  • Kaylee Kathman (daughter of Mitch & Angie Kathman): Kaylee has been active in volleyball, FBLA, FFA, FCA, band, Journalism, L/N Club, Student Council, and HOSA.  Outside of school she has kept busy with an EMT Skills Training course, church smorgasboard, and softball and fire department fundraisers as well.

  • Brandi Mazour (daughter of Larry & Donna Mazour):  Brandi has been active in volleyball, FBLA, Student Council, FCA, band, choir, color guard, and Journalism.  Outside of school she has helped at the American Legion, and Operation Shine Camp donating countless hours of her time.

  • Boone Svoboda (son of Arnie Svoboda & Teri Pond-Svoboda):  Boone has been active in FFA, FBLA, Drama, Band, Football, Basketball, FCA and is the junior class president.  Outside of school, he has helped with meals on wheels, the Salvation Army, FFA Alumni activities and various church events.

  • Megan Wheeland (daughter of Kevin Wheeland & the late Renee Wheeland):  Megan has been active in volleyball, basketball, FFA, FBLA, FCA, HOSA, Student Council, Drama, and Teammates. Outside of school Megan has volunteered at the Nelson Santaland for several years and also helped with her church's bible school.
