Amanda Skalka, Director of Curriculum & Assessment

August 11, 2012

Amanda Skalka, Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment

Welcome to the new school year!  I am excited to serve as your new Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Director.  While a few tears were shed as I attended my last FBLA conference this summer and came to terms with the fact that I will no longer be in the classroom, the opportunity to impact the education of EVERY single student in our district is very exciting!

My responsibilities include:

  • Establishing and communicating a vision for teaching and learning that results in improved student performance.

  • Leading a continuous school improvement process that results in improved student performance and school effectiveness.

  • Providing leadership to ensure the implementation of a rigorous curriculum, the use of effective teaching practices, and accountability for results.

  • Creating a school culture that enhances the academic, social, physical, and emotional development of all students.

  • Using effective practices to select, develop, support, and lead high quality teachers and other staff.

  • Promoting and supporting productive relationships with students, staff, families, and the community.

  • Advocate equity and excellence in support of the vision of the school, and act with fairness, integrity, and a high level of professional ethics.

The impact on student learning is always the focus of updating or implementing new programs or tools in our district. This year we will implement Program Specific methods to our elementary

reading curriculum district-wide, continue to align our curriculum using the Atlas Curriculum Mapping software, continue to administer assessments and use the data to make informed decisions, and

implement several technology tools for student use. These tools include PowerSchool

(our new grading program and student information system), Moodle (a virtual learning environment used to extend

learning outside of the classroom), and Google Apps (student email, storage and document sharing).

Thank you for your patience as I take on these new responsibilities. I look forward to helping EVERY South Central Unified student succeed!
