SCU #5 Releases 1st Semester AR Celebration

South Central elementary students will celebrate their ARrrrgh Reading success on Monday, December 17th with special guest, MN Jack Sparrow.  As Minnesota's Jack Sparrow, Joshua Godfredson's impersonation of Captain Jack Sparrow thrills kids and adults alike.  Now celebrating 13 years as MN Jack Sparrow, he is one of the longest running and most experienced impersonators in the world.  With a mastery of Jacks movements, his voice, and a wardrobe worthy of Hollywood, MN Jack Sparrow keeps things very real and authentic to even the biggest fan.  Don't be surprised if our students "accidentally" learn some REAL pirate facts from this history buff, he spends a large amount of time teaching Pirate History to schools and historical events from coast to coast.

Students will also learn about the real Captain "Black Sam" Bellamy, his ship, "the Whydah" and the only actual pirate treasure to ever be found to date.  Students will learn about bullying, nautical measurements, trade winds and currents, mapping and GPS navigation with various hands-on activities throughout the day.  Mr. Wiseman and Mrs. Schmoldt will also keep them excited with a fast paced game of Capture the Flag - Pirates of the Caribbean version.  Students will bring home an art project incorporating shells and stones from various beaches around the world and a FREE BOOK.  Remind your student to check out their local school library as pirate books have been pulled for their enjoyment.

Students can also earn AR points with a variety of Hands-On projects.  Students are encouraged to work with others to complete their projects, share their learning experience, and learn some new things.  All hands-on projects and AR Tests must be completed by December 7th.  Students that do not met their goal will be provided a quiet place to continue reading to prepare for the 3rd Quarter goal.
