Sandy Creek Hosted a Beef Kick-Off Program

Sandy Creek hosted a Beef In Schools Kick Off Program on Thursday, February 28, 2019.  Mr. Searle first welcomed all the students and staff. Then a short description of the program was given before thanking all the SC Beef donors for their support of either a monetary donation or the donation of a beef. Then we discussed how the Beef Advisory Council was formed and how the group moved forward to start the three-year campaign which began after Thanksgiving. We have had much support from our patrons from the district, local businesses, and cattle producers. Locally grown beef is now served every Thursday and this program began in January. With serving all the students at Sandy Creek pre-school through twelfth grade we will go through one beef per month.

Dawn Caldwell had a prerecorded video that served as an exciting message to the students as she was promoting Beef in Schools. Dawn promotes Beef production across the United States and beyond. She also serves on the South Central Cattlemen’s.  Once she was finished thanking everyone she went into how important the Beef Industry was to the economy. Then the “Beef Life Cycle Video was shown to students that describe production from start to finish.

Bill Pohlmeier is member of South Central Cattlemen’s and the Nebraska Cattlemen. He spoke on the intent of South Central Cattlemen’s about the project of getting Beef in Schools in the four countywide area.

The last speaker of the program was Doug Straight. He is the Director of Industry Relations responsible for check off collections, compliance and producer communications while working with sale barns, brand inspectors and producers to facilitate the check off collection process.  He was an Ag teacher for 33 years in Shickley, before retiring.
