Lawrence/ Nelson Journalism Students Receive Recognition at NSAA Class C State Journalism Competition
Due to COVID-19, the 2019-2020 NSAA State Journalism competition was canceled. Not wanting to let all of the students' hard work go to waste, the NSAA decided to use preliminary entries to determine the placing and outcomes for the competition. Results were streamed live over Stiv through the NSAA website on April 22, 2020, at noon. All Lawrence/ Nelson journalism students participated in the state competition, submitting in several categories including writing samples, photography, or photo illustrations. The L/N students did well this year, bringing home more medals than the previous year.

"I'm super proud of the staff this year," mentioned sponsor, Mrs. Kylee Haba. She went on to say, "my goal this year was to better our skills in order to actually compete in the final round of state journalism, instead of only being able to go to receive awards for preliminary categories. By placing in the top 8, we would have been able to do so and that shows how much our hard work paid off." With the competition canceled, the journalism staff was unable to go to Norfolk to compete but were still extremely happy with the awards that they received. Overall, the L/N Journalism staff earned 12th place as a team and they are excited to prepare for next year's competition.
(Medals will be mailed to the school and delivered once received.)
