Language Arts and Social Studies Curriculum Survey to be completed by March 10th

Please help us out by putting in your opinion!

SCNUSD #5 Staff, Parents, and Patrons:

South Central Unified School District #5 reviews the instructional materials used in each content area on a regular cycle. Currently, K-12 Social Studies courses are being reviewed and 6-12 English Language Arts are beginning the process. We welcome feedback from parents and community members as part of our review process. If you have a few minutes, we would appreciate you filling out this brief survey.

English Language Arts (ELA): Nebraska ELA Standards focus on the areas of reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Nebraska will be revising the standards for the next school year to incorporate specific grammar components for each grade level as well. You can view the 2014 ELA standards at https://www.education.ne.gov/ela/.

Nebraska Social Studies standards were revised in 2019 and focus on the areas of Civics, Economics, Geography, and History. One of the most significant changes is specifying standards for each middle school grade (6-8) instead of grouping them together. The 2019 SS Standards can be found at https://www.education.ne.gov/socialstudies/standards/

In addition to a survey, the advisory committee continues to review research and available curricular options, study best practices, and examine successful programs in other school districts.

The survey will close at noon on March 10, 2021.

Thank you for your time and input! This feedback will help guide the committee in their work in the coming months. For more information about the work of the material adoption committees please contact Amanda Skalka at askalka@southcentralusd.us.
