Hastings College Art Mural Competition
This Wednesday, September 8th, 5 senior girls (Elsa Jorgensen, Aleah Heikkinen, Emma Epley, Kylie Beard, & Fayth Brudvig) traveled to Hastings College to compete in the 6th annual art mural competition. When the students arrive at the JDAC parking lot, they are given an hour to set up supplies and tape down their mural banners before the 4 hour competition begins. 37 schools registered to compete in this competition, and only 3 schools placed. The students are given their mural theme and asked to paint from 10 am to 2 pm, with an hour to judge, and awards handed out at 3 pm. This year’s theme was the year “2075” and the 6 girls decided to paint the album cover to the song “2055”, but add their own twist. Other schools seemed to be painting sad abandoned places, whereas the Lawrence Nelson girls added several fun colors and painted a flying car in outer space to help them win 2nd place at the competition.
