Accelerated Reader Update: Students Reaching their First Semester Goals
Congratulations to our K-5 students reaching their first semester AR goals at Lawrence/Nelson! The students will have a short celebration on Friday morning, December 18th, which will include decorating cookies, a scavenger hunt and bingo before their all-school class party and movie, as well as the fifth graders' play on A Christmas Carol and the book reading of it as well. To see the list of students making their goal, click HERE. Congratulations to these students - we are proud of you!
Students' third quarter AR goals start on SATURDAY, DECEMBER 19TH. Students CAN/SHOULD read at home over the holiday break and can take AR tests at home as well. They can't accumulate more than 1/4 of their total goal for the 3rd quarter, and students are reminded that they MUST READ AT OR ABOVE THEIR GRADE LEVEL in AR. To see the list of AR books and point value, go to the school website at: https://www.southcentralunified.org/vnews/display.v/SEC/Students%20and%20Parents%7CAccelerated%20Reader.
Each quarter we have students in the upper grades that read 0.2 or 0.3 books just to make their final points. Our overall goal is to increase a student's reading ability, and reading far below a child's grade level will not increase their reading comprehension skills. If you have questions on what level your student is at, or what level a book is, you can find that information by logging on to the child's AR website (list of usernames/passwords was sent home earlier this year).
Have a great holiday break, starting at 3:30 PM on Friday, December 18th, and we will plan to see our students back in the buildings on Tuesday, January 5th.
