Fanning Medals at Fillmore Central

Emet Fanning placed 13th at Fillmore Central to earn a medal and lead the boys team to an 11th place finish.  Kaylee Fike led the girls team with a time of 17:29 and a 34th place finish.  

Fanning raced past two runners in the last 100 meters to get his first medal ever at the Fillmore Central meet.  Another highlight was Trevor DeVries who finished 40 seconds ahead of his time at the same meet a year ago.  

Red Raiders Place Three First Time Medalists at Fairbury

Kaylee Fike, Kara Himmelberg, and Emet Fanning all finished as first time medalists at Fairbury.  Kaylee finished 13th with a time of 19:28.  Kara had a time of 19:53 and finished in 15th place.  Erika Harms again finished close behind with a time of 20:53 and a 21st place finish.

The boys race at Fairbury had a dramatic ending.  Emet Fanning was about 100 yards behind another runner who was in 15th place at the time.  Emet caught and passed him to secure a 15th place medal with a time of 20:17.  Trevor DeVries finished with a time of 21:34 earning him 31st place.  

The boys finished in 8th place overall.  Head coach Randi McMahon was thrilled with both the girls and boys performances.  Emet gave everything he had in that race and the girls ran as a pack, pushing each other. Fairbury is where districts will be held this year.  She was pleased with the kids performance and felt comfortable knowing they will know what to expect in a few weeks at districts.

Red Raiders Place 6th at Superior

South Central Red Raider boys and girls cross country teams participated in the Superior Cross Country Invite on August 30.  The boys finished in 6th place in the team division with 111 points.  The girls had three individuals place in the top 25.  

Emet Fanning led the Red Raiders with a time of 18:38 and a 12th place finish.  Trevor DeVries finished 18th and Shaun Eborn, Owen Kohmetscher, and Henry Himmelberg placed in the top 50.  

The Lady Red Raiders team was led by Kara Himmelberg with a time of 19:01 and a 19th place finish.  Kaylee Fike and Erika Harms finished close behind with times of 19:11 and 19:26 respectively.  Those times were good enough for 23rd and 24th.

The Red Raiders and Lady Red Raiders compete again September 6 at Fairbury.
