Well, that time of year has come and gone again…..HOMECOMING!!!!! Cooler weather and the glow of the field lights had taken over another Friday night. Along with the roar of the crowd after a bomb of a spike at the net filled the gym. And here at Lawrence-Nelson... we Raiders sure knew how to do Homecoming Week up right!

This year, like every year, the students got to dress up and show their school spirit. The days were picked out by the L-N Student Council and boy did they have fun with it! The Dress Up days for this year included “Mix and Match Day”, where, on Monday, the students got to wear their wackiest arrangement of clothing. The winners for this day were Mrs. Haba, Colton Biltoft, and Bailey Cox. “This was my favorite day because we can throw anything and everything together and be weird without worrying about what other people will think,” said sophomore winner, Bailey Cox.

On Tuesday, the students got to participate in “Opposite Day,” where they get to dress up as the opposite gender. Emma Epley, Trevor Biltoft, Cody Buescher, Mrs Engelhardt, John Hoecker and Brody Himmelberg were the winners of this day, wearing full out prom dresses and suits.“Sports Day” was on Wednesday. Students were allowed to dress up like their favorite athlete, wear their favorite sports gear or adorn their favorite team apparel. The best dressed this day were Karrigan Drudik , Riley Kucera, Rachel Kathman, Mrs. Wehrman, and Mrs. Kinnemann.

On Thursday we saw paparazzi flashes galore, as it was “Celebrity Day” and students got to have fun dressing up like their favorite celebrities. Those chosen as the best dressed were Elsa Jorgensen, Bailey Cox, Gabe Sharp, Mackinley Thayer, Lane Kathman, Joey Hoecker, Harry Furrey, Mrs. Trausch, and “The Three Stooges” (Kyle Golay, Coy Ceder &  Trevin Kotinek). Last but not least, Friday… “Raiders Pride Day.” Students showed their school spirit by rocking their black and silver. Morgan Menke said, “It was so hard to choose just one winner on most of the days because almost everyone participated and went all out on their costumes.”

The Sunday before Homecoming, all of the students and sponsors came into school to decorate their hallways. Each hallway came up with their own theme and decorations. The hallway winners were chosen by the spectators of the Homecoming Volleyball game. In first place, with the theme of “Light Up The Night,” were the Seniors. Tying for second place, were the Juniors, with “America”, and the Sophomores, who showed off their theme of “Mario and Luigi.” Then the Freshmen, coming in third place, with the theme of “ Pac-Man.” The Middle School students also participated with a hallway theme of “Wizard of Oz.”

The Raiders’ Volleyball and Football teams took the week to gear up for their Homecoming games. The ranked Raiders Volleyball team played the Shelton Bulldogs, who had a 6-10 record. The girls pulled out a victory, winning in three sets.  The scores for each set were the following: 25-22,

When asking how they felt about the Homecoming game, the volleyball girls said, “We worked hard all week and put all of our effort into playing the best game we can, being able to come out with a win.” The volleyball team now has a 10-2 record. On Friday afternoon, the students, staff and community celebrated with a parade and pep rally, which was organized by the L-N Student Council. The Homecoming Parade included the L-N band and color guard, also the local fire and rescue squad brought out a few trucks. It was also filled with classes holding posters and props, along with an array of floats, displaying the students and parents hard work and effort. The floats and classes were judged by the Nelson Community Club. “I enjoyed the band and flags, they played well,” said junior, Dairien Edgar. The pep rally included fun games, speeches from all of the coaches and the handing out of the Spirit Stick. After being encouraged by all of the coaches, we were taught some new cheers from the Middle School Student Council, Mrs. Porter, and  Mrs. Kile, parent of senior, Abby Kile. “My favorite
