Sandy Creek High School Conducted Apply2College Event

Seniors at Sandy Creek High School took a critical step in the college preparation process when they participated in a college application event September 30th at the school.

Sandy Creek is one of over 200 schools conducting events as part of the statewide Apply2College Campaign sponsored by EducationQuest Foundation.  During the event at Sandy Creek, seniors were able to get hands-on help with college applications from college representatives from UNL and CCC along with school counselor, Connie Porter.

“The college application process can be overwhelming – especially those from families unfamiliar with the process,” said Connie Porter, Apply2College Coordinator. Over 60 college applications were completed at the two-hour Apply2College event. “It was really helpful to do this at school with help from Mrs. Porter and the college representatives,” said McKensi Uecker, a Sandy Creek senior.

Completing college applications can be tedious so activities to make applying to colleges more exciting were implemented.  When students completed an application they rang a bell and everyone cheered, entered their name for a door prize, placed a college pennant on a banner, and received an Eileen’s cookie with their college logo.

The Apply2College Campaign is part of the American College Application Campaign sponsored by the American Council on Education. All states are now participating in the annual program.
