Elementary Awards for the First Semester

IXL, AR and MAPs testing will be coming soon...

Lawrence/Nelson Elementary Update

First Semester 2017-2018

Many of our Lawrence/Nelson students deserve to be recognized for their first semester academic successes, ranging from IXL mastery to reaching their AR goals to scoring in the 85% percentile or higher in MAPs testing (not all testing is complete, so these students will be recognized after the break).  Those scoring in the 85% percentile or higher will be recognized with the Presidential Academic Award, and will also be recognized as a high ability learner.

IXL.  IXL is an online math and language arts that allows students to practice skills and track their own progress.  After mastering 50 skills, students get a gift certificate to Eileen’s Cookies, and after 100 skills, students pick out a game from Mrs. Epley’s game pile at the elementary.  Students who have received this award, or need to come in and see Mrs. Epley to receive their award are as follows:

50 skills mastered or more:

  • Kolten Menke 63, 2nd grade

  • Keygan Myers 59, 2nd grade

  • Noah Bardon 79, 3rd grade

  • Grayhm Beck 76, 3rd grade

  • Freya Weston 54, 3rd grade

  • Kanin Engelhardt 62, 4th grade

  • Madelyn Laughlin 112, 2nd grade

  • Jace Hoelting 124, 3rd grade

  • Nickolas Kendall 100, 3rd grade

AR Celebration for the Second Quarter.  Students recognized for reaching their second quarter AR goals were able to take part in lots of hands-on activities with the Sandy Creek Elementary students just before the holiday break.  Activities included Explorit Edgerton, UNL Bacteriology and Popcorn experiments, as well as Hot House and Magic of Color, learn about the Science of Art and Music, as well as completing the Investigate Series AR book project to name a few.  Those reaching their second quarter goals who were eligible to participate are listed below:

Students are reminded that they can take AR tests over the holiday break, and earn as many as half of their points towards their third quarter goals (or second semester goals if they are in middle school).  They just need to go to the school website (www.southcentralunified.org) → Parents and students (tab on the RIGHT side of the school website) → Accelerated Reader (drop down menu from the Parents and Students tab).  Students who do not remember their usernames or passwords can email one of the school secretaries or Mrs. Epley to obtain this information.

Congratulations to these students -- we are proud to call you a Raider!  Keep up the good work!!  See all of you back on January 4th.  Reminders for upcoming dates of no school or early outs are as follows:

  • February 8th: Parent Teacher Conferences in Lawrence from 2 PM to 8:30 PM.

  • February 9th:  No School due to PT Conferences the night before.

  • March 1st:  Students will get out at noon for a teacher in-service (change to original calendar).

  • March 2nd:  No School due to inservice added to the calendar.

  • March 8th & March 9th:  No School due to Spring Break.

  • March 30th & April 2nd:  No School due to Easter Break.

  • April 27th:  No School due to inservice.

  • May 17th:  Last day for students.

  • June 4th - 21st:  Tentatively, these are the dates that we have set for Summer School, which runs from Monday through Thursday for three weeks.
