Pop Fizzics
Fourth and Fifth Grade students continued their STEM experimentation on a nicer day with exploration of soda and Mentos. Why do Mentos turn ordinary bottles of soda into geysers of fun? Students predicted which would work better: cola vs fruit flavored soda, diet vs regular, even mint Mentos vs fruit Mentos. Then several students were pulled from the audience to try their best to get all of the Mentos into their soda bottle. After the students had a bit of sticky, crazy fun, it was time for the teachers to test their luck. Where they any better at getting the Mentos into the bottle? At the end of the afternoon it was a crazy, fun, sticky day with students practicing the Scientific Method and learning through some hands-on activities.
