2012-2013 External Team FINAL Report

December 5, 2012

Good news! South Central Unified will be receiving District Accreditation!

The Exit Report presentation starts with an overview of AdvancED and the key elements for accreditation and information about the external review team and process. Then you will find our ratings for each of the five AdvancED standards. Mr. Sedey, our lead evaluator, explained that anything between 2 and 3 is acceptable, 4 is considered almost unattainable, and a 1 indicates lots of room for improvement; our average was 2.63.

The next slide includes the Learning Environment Ratings. It was noted during the presentation that 29 classroom observations were made at approximately 20 minutes each. The purpose was to observe student engagement, not teacher performance. The ratings may look low, but Mr. Sedey was quick to point out that it is not possible to observe all of the indicators on the rubric within the small classroom observation time frame and the rubric requires a 1 to be chosen if the indicator is not observed. Research is being done at AdvancED to study this rubric format and rating system.

The team gave us valuable feedback with the required actions that follow on the next slides; the district has two years to show our plans for addressing these issues. Two to five actions are typical, we were given three required actions.

The presentation concluded with themes and powerful practices the team felt noteworthy to mention. These are our items to be especially proud of - please take a look!

The team was very complimentary to everyone in our district for our hospitality and preparation - thank you! The team was comprised of two out of state evaluators, from Minnesota and Louisiana, and three Nebraska educators.

Now that the External Review is complete, the AdvancED Accreditation office will review and send us their report, including narratives and feedback on specific items. The Accreditation Commission meets each January and June, so we are hoping to have the official stamp of approval in January.

Thank you to everyone for your continuous work to improve the learning experiences of our students!
