SCNUSD #5 Graduates Seniors

SCNUSD #5 graduated 47 seniors on Saturday.  Sandy Creek held the graduation ceremony at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 8 and Lawrence-Nelson held the graduation ceremony at 4:00 pm on Saturday. 

Seniors from both schools honored their parents/guardians/loved ones with their chosen class flowers and heard messages from the salutatorians and valedictorians at each site.  At Lawrence-Nelson the salutatorian was Jessie Himmelberg and the valedictorian was McKenzie Ostdiek.  While at Sandy Creek the salutatorian was Breanna Brennfoerder and the valedictorian was Noah Shackelford. 

At the Sandy Creek graduation ceremony, social studies teacher, Jessica Shipley, was chosen as the guest speaker.  While at the Lawrence-Nelson graduation ceremony, a senior video depicting pictures of the seniors throughout the years, created by senior Emily Miller, was played. 

At Lawrence/Nelson 18 students earned  327 college credits.  Ten of those students have over 20 credits.  Nine students that are attending CCC next year, have been awarded the 12 free credits since they took at least 12 college credits in high school.  L/N has one student who received the KHOP and one student who received the Nebraska Machinery Sponsorship along with many other students receiving some nice scholarships. 

At Sandy Creek,  21 total students completed 551 total college credits.  Of these students, 20 students completed over 20 hours; 5 over 30 hours; and one student graduated completing 50 credits.  Three of these students will be attending CCC taking advantage of the Transition Advantage scholarship, which grants them 12 free credits.  One student received the KHOP scholarship and one received a Susan Thompson Buffett scholarship, along with several other students earning scholarships as well.  

Of the graduates, they all are planning to either attend college or enter the workforce, and one is considering the military.
